Finally, it’s time for Spain to get their hands on the all-elusive gold medal!
Dressed in tracksuits coloured white, yellow and red – the Spanish players stand on the podium, holding hands before raising their arms in the air.
They have big smiles on their faces as they celebrate the moment they have waited for. FIFA President Gianni Infantino is handing them the gold medals and some players quickly plant a kiss, embracing a beautiful moment in their careers.
Spain, who lost the final to Brazil at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, have become the first European gold medallist in men’s football since they last won the tournament at the Barcelona Games in 1992.
Spain’s victory also marks a personal double for Fermin Lopez and Alex Baena, who were both part of the Euro 2024-winning squad.
In a few minutes, the Spanish anthem will play on the speakers, as the country’s flag goes up in the background.
France win silver at home Games
Thierry Henry’s France team, dressed in all-white tracksuits, are awarded their silver medals after losing 5-3 in extra time to Spain in the final, which ended an hour ago.
The players don’t look happy, they know they were very close to getting their hands on the elusive gold, having pushed the Spanish side to their limits.
Nonetheless, it is a commendable achievement for the French team, who have won an Olympic medal after 40 years, having grabbed the gold at the 1984 Games.
The silver medal is even more special as they are sharing moment this with their home fans, especially the thousands who are at the Parc des Princes right now.
The fans in the stadium are giving a standing ovation to their team and also showing their support by waving tiny flags.
